The Northern NSW region is widely known as god (goddess) country with lush green acres, pristine beaches and an expansive mountain range bordering Byron Bay and the Gold Coast.
We head from the Tweed Coast into the Tweed valley, a picturesque 30 minute drive to Wollumbin National Park. Also known as Mount Warning the trek into the national park is alive with rainforest flora and fauna.
The reminisce of an ancient shield volcano, Wollumbin Mt Warning is what remains as the central core. The mountain can be seen from most vantage points along the coast and changes perspective throughout the valley.
Known as the ‘sleeping man’ with what appears to be an impression of an elders face, it is a male initiation mountain and a sacred place to the local bundjalung tribe-look but don’t touch or climb.
There is a lyrebird track to wander at the your leisure, located at the base of the mountain with a plethora of swimming holes and slides dotted along the way.
The quaint town of UKI is a further 10 minutes into the valley and is currently undergoing a facelift with new coffee spots and gallery spaces popping up.
The picturesque Maviss Kitchen is conveniently located along Mount Warning Road and offers a farm fresh breakfast and lunch with pop up dinners and events to suit the seasons.
There’s a secret garden on top of the property that is surrounded by 15 acres of lush bush land and the most spectacular 360’c views of Wollumbin we’ve ever seen.
The Tweed Valley is one of Australia’s (not so) best kept secrets, discover hidden hamlets, local food producers, a gin and rum distillery and boutique breweries dotted along the way.
