Easter Holidays are upon us which means family, friends, camping, chocolate and Byron Bay Blues Fest right?

Unlikely as 2020 has thrown us one very large curb ball in the name of social distancing and ISO-all brought on by another acronym COVID19.

Yes the pandemic to end all Easter parties firmly arrived in Australia in early March with gusto and with an ever changing agenda, we awake each day with a new set of rules and regulations.

Left with the simple pleasures of life we adapt to living in the moment with our immediate family members or in solitude. Pets have never been so loved up and chocolate and wine is a pantry staple, necessity even.

Blessed to be in ISO in Northern NSW where solitude is a daily occurrence and there is an abundance of fresh food produced in and around the region-I set off to find the ideal Easter treats to indulge at home these holidays.

  1. HOME MADE TROPICAL FRUIT CHOCOLATES

On my weekly avocado and banana pick up from ‘Tropical Fruit World’ I spotted a box of home made chocolates, individually decorated with gold leaf.

Created with the fruits of the farm and home made chocolate they are as delicate as they are delicious. Think jackfruit, mango, papaya and hazelnuts.

On the way out I couldn’t resist a bag of honeycomb and chocolate blueberries- somewhat healthy treats!

  1. NAUGHTS & CROSSES ON SPICED BUNS.

Not one to align with religion I opted for a game of naughts and crosses with home made spiced buns from ‘Baked’ in Tweed Heads.

Made with all the good stuff they are light, fluffy and tasty. Delivered to our local cafe Osteria to ease the pickup, I couldn’t resist a dozen or two.

Serve fresh as they come or with lashings of locally made ‘Cheeses Loves You’ butter or home made lime jam from the fine Italian folk at Bacaro in Murwillumbah.

  1. DRIVE THROUGH PIPING HOT DONUTS

Yes you can drive through and pick up piping hot donuts in the Tweed. The quirky crew at “Cubby Bakehouse’ have not only reinvented their business they are donned in gold one piece suits with bunny ears to entertain.

Cubby is known for its savoury baguettes bursting with local produce and more recently they popped up a donut van in their riverside garden.

To adapt to social distancing they’ve got the spiced buns and hot donuts covered as a drive though add on- presto your freshly baked goodies appear curb side.

  1. SOUR DOUGH & PAIN AU CHOCOLAT TO YOUR DOOR

There’s silver linings to this COVID19 business, like one of my favourite bakeries ‘The Bread Social’ now delivers fresh goodness to your door.

Maybe not the best for the waste-line but definitely good for my mental and spiritual health. There’s a selection of their finest breads, croissants and danishes.

The friendly hard working folk at ‘The Bread Social’ are as creative as they are community minded and with delivery Monday and Friday we can eat pan all week.

  1. ORGANIC FRUIT & HOUSE MADE CARROT CAKE

‘Farm & Co’ have always delivered the freshest produce straight from the paddock to our plates. Organic fruit and vegetables change with each season and an abundance of local goodness bursts from their new valley abode.

Adapting to the social distancing rules you can write down your order and they will pack it for you whilst you have a locally brewed takeaway coffee.

With a penchant for freshly baked carrot cake I couldn’t help purchasing the last slab on offer and ate it way before I got home- oops.

  1. GELATO DELIVERED TO YOU DOOR.

Our friends at ‘Get the Scoop’ in Cabarita have cranked up a home delivery service and who wouldn’t want home made gelato delivered to the door whilst in ISO?

There’s an array of tangy flavours like Boysenberry, Vanilla Bean and Gourmet Strawberry along with crowd favourites like Mint Chip, Banocoffee and Salted Caramel.

If sorbet is more your jam try the the lemon, green apple and salted lime combo- theres also of cabinet filled of donuts to devour.
